I completed the UCLA Physician Training Program in Acupucnture (1991) and later was a table trainer for other physicians in this course. Since then I have taken many other acupuncture trainings (completion of Toyo Hari training [Japanese acupuncture]; Auricular Medicine; various methods of qi palpation, etc.).
I find that acupuncture is one of the most valuable ways I have found to help patients. Often we may think it is just for painful conditions and, indeed, it is remarkably effective for this. However, it is also very useful for many other issues that are functional, emotional, and neurological.
Over the years I studied with many other excellent teachers.
Neoclassical Acupuncture — what I use now
In 2025 I began using Neoclassical acupuncture, an approach that uses a detailed meridian exam and an algorithm to choose a single point to balance the whole system. I’ve found it to be extremely powerful and often life‑changing for patients. I’m trained through all four levels of Slate Burris’s program, up to the Expert level.
At this point, having seen thousands of patients since I first opened my doors in 1991, I have no hesitation to say that I know of no approach that is more powerful than Neoclassical acupuncture.
Patients are delighted that a single needle can eliminate pain and functional issues in such a short time.
